What we want:We want everyone in the United States to realize that they know at least one person who is gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer. We want to gain all our basic human rights by finally being recognized as the vital, contributing members of society we are. In recent years the American LGBTQ community has made some remarkable gains, while at the same time we are still called perverts in the national media, still cannot serve openly in the armed forces, still cannot legally secure our families, and are still ignored by the politicians we thought were our staunchest allies. It is past time for us to have equal status in this country.
We believe equality can only be achieved if we cannot be ignored. Fear and hate are caused by ignorance, and our greatest weapon against ignorance is visibility. That’s why we want every member of the Queer Community not only to come out of the closet but to come out LOUDLY.
Politicians cannot forget that a vote against us is a vote against their constituency.
Clergy need to know that condemnation of us is condemnation of their congregation.
Haters have to realize that slurs against us are slurs against their family.
We are everywhere.
